Paul Vazquez JD : I was working on putting a video together the other day when the internet went down. It gave me time to work on things not needing the internet, but the internet is back up so I'm back working on 8949s and other docs for my clients.
James Shaw : Thank you so much - this is very helpful! If you have not sold a stock but it has risen/fallen in value, do you still have to report its value at the end of year? If so, should this be reported for capital gains on the 8949 form or a different form? Thanks!
Tushar Goel : Thanks a lot for the video.
One question though, if I bought the same stock 3 different times, at different quantities, and at a different price. Then I sell quantities of it at different times at different prices. How do I list that?
Giriz Vlogs : If I bought share at different dates and sold them before 1 year, should i write "various" in column of date acquired?
Anthony : Why is it some lines mentioned are not the same on my 1040 form? Is this demo based on earlier years, like 2017 and later? My line 13 is different from what the demo recommended....in other words, is this video based not based on 2020 1040 forms? If it is, it should be told at the very top, so as not to confuse us.

Reporting Capital Gains on IRS Form 8949 and Schedule D

IRS Form 8949 has caused many sleepless nights for people over the years. In this video, Geoffrey Schmidt, CPA, shows you just how easy it is to fill out Form 8949. More importantly, he gives a simple example so that you fully understand exactly what you need to know and how you need to think about Form 8949. All in just over 5 minutes!
nancyjm79 : Thanks. How do I know if I need to fill this out or can just fill out Schedule D?
tulebox : If I buy 100 shares of stock, then sell 50 on one day, then 50 on another day, how are those lines filled out?
Anthony : great info....For the first time in over 45 years I finally sold some shares this past Dec. because of the pandemic. My 1099-B only shows the amount that I wanted, nothing else at all. I and my brokerage house have no record of what I bought that fund for, 30 years ago, with the exception it being transferred from previous brokerage houses, that they could only go back to the year 2004. Also, there were reinvested dividends involved...Tax preparers when told of my situation, they all say the software would take care of my situation. How could that be, if they have no figures of when i originally bought that fund?
he11ove11o : Hello, Thank you for your video.
We are new to stock market so please could you tell us little bit about wash loss and whether you have to list transaction per brokerage account or synchronized list. Also if hisband and wife file jointly, and trades same security how does it affects us. Is it good to login to broker account during tax filing so they can have all documents correctly during submission.
Appreciate your help.
Kam I M : Great. Simple. I think I've moved from over my head to pretty much knowing which blanks to fill out and where the items come from.
